The time has come for WAR! Chaos Lord Kitsune has summoned the great, forbidden Chaos Beast from the Rift of Time, endangering the entire world of Lore. And to make matters even worse, the Rift is unleashing thousands of Yokai into the lands, threatening to swallow up Yokai Island!

It is up to YOU and your friends to put an end to Chaos Lord Kitsune’s reign before this matter gets out-of-hand! Yokai Island is overrun with crazed monsters known as (you guessed it) Yokai. According to real-life Asian Folklore, not all Yokai are bad. Most are pranksters. Some are lonely and looking for a friend. Others are just plain creepy who simply want to eat your liver (yes, this IS true!). But since Kitsune is a Chaos Lord, this all-around-bad-guy has vowed to turn all the Yokai against the Human race. And apparently thus far, he’s kept true to his resolution.
The time has come to show Chaos Lord Kitsune that we are not going down without a fight! Travel to the first two ancient Shrines of Yokai Island and meet with the Yokai there. Some are friendly… some are mean… but most are just plain disturbing!

The YEAR OF CHAOS is about to begin...

Friends, thank you for the best year ever! Before the highly anticipated insanity of 2010 begins, let us take a moment to look back over the year... and chuckle at all of the victories, train-wrecks and embarrassing moments that we shared together.

As you may recall, we launched AQWorlds just before the start of 2009. The game was brand new and did not even have a story yet. I was shocked when I realized how many things did not exist until this year. Thanks to your ideas, suggestions and very appreciated encouragement, the team accomplished....

The storyline began!
The intro of the game where Drakath first appeared, slew Sepulchure and mortally wounded King Alteon
Our first game-wide Wars!
We battled side by side against millions of monsters in a massively multiplayer version of the wars for the first time.
Housing was released!
The 1st Lord of Chaos: Escherion
In a zone inspired by the artwork of MC Escher, players battled their first Chaos Lord. Escherion is a battle mage with the power of inversion.
The 2nd Lord of Chaos: The Twins
The Twins were originally balanced, once offering good advice and one offering bad... until Drakath intervined, and secretly replaced the good one with... well, that is a story for next year. The Twins have not been fought and currently only appear during one-time-only special events.
The 3rd Lord of Chaos: Vath
The 3rd Chaos Lord is a Dark Elf DragonLord. Controlling a giant Dragon named Stalagbite he took control of the Dwarfhold Mountains and the mystic forge within.
The 4th Lord of Chaos Revealed: Kitsune
Inspired by Artix's adventures to the far East, Yokai Isle features anime-spoofs and famous Japanese monsters that you may never have heard of!
18,000 Mages Teleported the town of Battleon
In order to move the town from the path of an on-coming meteor, all of the mages of the world united to cast a giant teleportation spell. On the first attempt, we landed above Gravelyn's evil fortress.
AQWorld's goes widescreen!
Eveyr map in the game was resized to our new, bigger screensize.
Voltaire Friday the 13th Event
Our first live event with a musical guest star! 32,000 players showed up for the 1st live event crushing the servers like a peanut under an elephant's foot. Then, there was a second Friday the 13th... and we did another one with hourly shows!
Artix, Twilly & Zorbak visited Japan
Warpforce, our 1st Expansion was released!
The team that runs the original AdventureQuest created a full spin off game taking classic AQ style game play to the stars.
The MechQuest ArtBook
Our first artbook! Created at the lab by Johnny Atomic, Aisha and the team, it is BEAUTIFUL! (and full of Artix's bad grammar and typos). See for yourself
NPC's got those pop-up thingies
It might not sound like a big deal, but it really added a lot to the game!
DragonCon 2009!!!
Best convention ever! We ran a panel and players came dressed as J6, Escherion, Tek, Yulgar, Cleric Joy, and Ash! One player (Sunbrella) even flew all the way from New Zealand to come meet us! As usual Zorbak took lots of pictures! Oh, we also went to JCON this year which was a blast!

It was an inside joke started by players that spiraled out of control, ending with a T-shirt and the world's cheesiest infomercial.... it called for the return of Sepulchure's laugh-aholic skeletal sidekick (who originated from DragonFable!)
The PTR: Stats and PvP began
The biggest and most important project of the year finally opened giving players (and the staff) a glimpse of upcoming PvP and player stats. (PTR Server - currently , Member only)

We also joined TrustE, which is a highly respected privacy protection program. While you and the players already know we are honest and responsible, it is nice having major organizations give us their stamp of approval!
Golden OnSlaught
(AQWorld's 1st Birthday Party)
Twig was left alone to decorate... cake, presents and Sweetish Fish as far as the eye could see. Meanwhile, a ground of overzealous Knight's kidnapped the entire staff (It was so funny how Cysero was trapped in a chalk circle and could not cross it.) In order to save them EVERY player in the game turned undead and joined Gravelyn's army of darkness in the most bizzare rescue mission EVER. Epic win. In the end, the heroes were rescued, the knights of the Golden Onslaught joined the players and their former leader, Maxmillian Lionfang, excaped... and ran into the Chaos Lord(s) known as The Twins. Signed Charity Auction Poster for $15,000!??
When new posters were created for the secret underground lab, there was one made at a different size. Cysero suggested that instead of just hanging it on the wall, that we auction it for the Child's Play Charity. With hopes of sending $100 to $200... the team was SHOCKED when bidding closed at $14,999.42. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Child's Play Charity which helps sick kids in Children's Hospitals.

The New Release

Fireworks have already been added to Battleon… so let’s ring in 2010 by blowing some stuff up! Makes complete sense, right?
Played DragonFable as of late? If so, you might recognize the newest… he loves SCIENCE and goes by the name of Lim! Since Cysero is off being a new Daddy, Lim has decided to help set up things for the New Year Party.
But some baddies have showed up, putting a damper on the New Year festivities (which include bundles of fireworks, new items, and a gigantic crystal Countdown Ball). While Lim makes wire cable repairs in an all-new map, specially made for New Years, it will be up to you to slay the power-cable gnawing monsters, including Ice Master Yeti!

So come celebrate 2010 with your friends and family as you watch the giant Countdown Ball drop in the famous Time’s Rectangle! (It’s kinda like a Square, but with longer sides) In the middle of this new map, a massive crystal ball is perched on a pole, slowly counting down to the new decade. A timer is beneath it too, showing you the exact time left until the arrival of 2010! Everyone is going to be there!

The Gift Boxes open on New Year’s Day!
These are the last days of 2009. The time has come to reflect on all of the great memories and achievements of the year… and also your last chance to obtain your Gift Boxes from the giant red bag in Battleon! At midnight (or close to it) on New Years Day, the presents will magically unwrap (you will have to relogin in to see them) so you can start 2010 off on the right track—with a brand new Armor, Sword,

Cysero's got a son!

Yesterday, December 26th, 2009 at 11:41 AM, my son Jack was born!

Yeah, I Drew That On His Hat In Paint.

Jack was 7 pounds, 11 oz, and just about 20 inches long.

Bekah went into labor at about 12:45 AM on Christmas night, and 11 hours later our son arrived, healthy and strong. Bekah is still tired and sore, but also healthy and happy to be a mommy. It was a long night but very worth it and I'm so glad that I was there right next to Bekah the whole time.

Thanks to everyone on Facebook and Twitter for all the Gratz and support!

I'll be working from home for a while, being a dad and taking proper care of my beloved, but don't think that I'm leaving for long. I couldn't stay away from making games if I tried!

Besides, I have to introduce Jack to weird Uncle Artix as soon as I can.

I hope you guys have had a great holiday season... this has been my very best Frosval ever!

Those of you who have been around for a while know that around this time every year I start trumpeting as loudly as I can about Child's Play.

Child's Play!

This is a great charity set up by the guys over at Penny Arcade, that brings the gamer community together to help kids in children's hospitals all over the world.
It runs year-round now but they try extra hard during the holidays to get the gaming community together to show the rest of the world what we're made of.
For the past couple of years we were able to actually be sponsors of Child's Play which due to circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to do this year... although many of us dug down into our pockets and gave personally.
We've decided to try something a little different this year.
We printed up this high-gloss, 24" X 30 3/4" poster of XAN, on foam-core and got as many of the AE Team to sign it as we could.

we've got over 75 items this week!

Where do I start? This week is going to be packed with new stuff. I was kidding around in my last design notes about not being able to count the new items coming out, but this time I'm serious, I actually can't count the number of items! At my last count it was 75, but who knows what more we can come up with for you tonight! It’s hard to really show you how much that is, but think of any other games out there that come out with an update only once a month, or a few swords scattered about for you to collect...what we have for you is so much better! Some of the items will be rereleases of last year’s Frostval items, but for players who experience their first holiday with us, you won't be disappointed. So let’s see if I can make a list! (Beleen checked it twice.)

Released this Friday, we have:

Frostval Items: Armors, swords, axes, staves, helms, pets, maces, capes, daggers, etc. I can count them all, but let’s just say there's more for you to buy than what fits in your backpack.

Frostval Gifts: Buy these in Battleon and keep them safe, they open up on New Years to reveal a new Set!*

Pet of the Month: A new pet of the month is here! He's a little late, but he made it! You can go buy him at Aria's in Battleon.

Chilly release tonight!

Frostvale's tonight, but it is 101° on the inside for me...

When I felt a cold coming on earlier this week, I did what you would expect any red blooded Florida-ian to do. I went to the Sushi restaurant. Along with a hot bowl of udon noodles I asked for a glass of water. See, the water was for my little container of "take this before you actually get sick and you will not get sick" medicine that I bought at the grocery store. It said on the side in bold letters that it was made by a school teacher. Having never used one before... I simply poured THE WHOLE THING into my water. (All 5 days worth) Seconds later my glass of water turned into a orange, bubbling science volcano that was moments from overflowing. I grabbed the cup and ran full-speed towards the rest room... but only made it half way (right in front of the sushi chef) before the orange volcano erupted and bubbled ALL OVER the floor... there was a bubbling trail all the way to the men's rest room. The other customers and waitresses were frozen with eyes wide open until the silence was finally broken by Rolith's /facepalm .

I probably caught my cold when the rest of the team put me up to modeling for those new AQWorlds ads. LOL, View at your own risk: Advertisement #1 and Advertisement #2 . If you, um, did not get the inside joke... these ads are a spoof of some other games which are using ads featuring scantily clad women that are all over the internet. They are also a direct result of my response, "What do you mean our ads need more skin? I would not have any character do something that my character would not do!" which was followed by a sinister, "Really....?"

Frostvale begins tonight!

The team has been working very hard on the special Forstvale release for you tonight in AQWorlds. Also, it is looking very positive for a launch of the PTR tonight (Featuring a lot of new stuff that I have not seen yet). If that was not enough, there is a huge release in EpicDuel, and big releases in DragonFable and MechQuest. How are you going to decide what to do first?

* Nope! No time travel faeries, that is the correct date. I wrote this yesterday in a feverish dream featuring a crowd of talking reigndeer who assured me it was a good idea to post the story.

* This has to be one of the best releases ever! I can't wait!

Face-off in the Frozen Northlands!

FROZEN NORTHLANDS
You and your friends have fought bravely through the Frozen Northlands and ended the war just in time. Too bad you didn’t have a fair fight against Queen Aisha… but luckily for us (I think?), Nythera has a “plan” to defeat Queen Aisha and her frozen reign of terror. Head to the recently rebuilt Guwio Village and find out which one of Nythera’s plans is best suited for you!

•Plan A requires unyielding strength with no signs of mercy. But in order to break into Aisha’s Fortress, you will need to harness a power greater than both magic and strength combined… by collecting enough Chaos Gemeralds in order to break through the front door!
•Plan B takes uses the “element” of surprise to sneak through the back gate undetected. However, there is a Cipher on the back gate to Aisha’s Fortress that needs to be decoded in order to enter. You will have to find clues to the 4-rune order, and then a fifth clue to decode the combination to sneak in undetected!

DRAGON DUO?
Rumor says that Queen Aisha is part dragon. But wait—according to DragonFable lore, Nythera the Purple Mage is ALSO part dragon. If you cannot defeat Aisha by yourself, then Nythera will have no choice but to take Aisha on… but, woah… two huge dragons battling it out in an enclosed icy fortress? Going head-to-head, claw-to-claw, fang-to-fang? This sounds incredibly unsafe. But incredibly epic. Hopefully it will never come to this…

AVALANCHE OF ITEMS
A new zone with new monsters, new villains, and new NPCs can only mean one thing: new items! By helping out in this chilling map, new swords, axes, pole arms and daggers will be available. A few of the items you can expect to discover include:

•Northlands Fishing Spear
•Harm ‘O Nee
•Frazier Fury
•Wreath of Wrath

And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Many more items are just waiting to be uncovered!

THE MOGLIN THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
Tinsel, the adorably adorable gift-giving Moglin, wants to start Frostval early (and we can’t blame her, either—Frostval rocks!). She has already wrapped all her presents and wants to give them to you and your friends… but Tinsel has hidden them somewhere secret! No, we won’t tell you where she’s hiding… but we will give you some hints:

•Tinsel’s first secret hideout is somewhere on Mount Frost
•Find Tinsel’s second secret gift in this week’s new map

It’s up to you and your friends to search high and low for her secret hideouts since they’re not marked anywhere on the maps. Find Tinsel, get a gift, wear the gift, and open it on the first day of the New Year! Start 2010 off on the right track—with a brand new look! Good luck!

CREATIVE COOKIE CONTEST
A super-sweet contest is underway on the forums! To start Frostval on the right track, Cysero came up with the delicious idea of the “AQW Creative Cookie Contest” (leave it up to him to think of a contest that involves food). This contest is pretty much easy-to-bake: create a cookie--or other yummy treat--AQWorlds style, take a picture of it, submit it on the forums, and have a chance at winning scrumptious prizes. And the best part is: you get to eat your creation afterwards! Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? Certainly not us… and certainly not Cysero!

The war for mount frost is now at 100%. But it hasn't just finished yet... After defeating the frost dragon for the first time, you'll get a cut scene with a twist.

How is your character class designing skill?
Thanks to whoever made the comment, "If you can't create new classes on the live server, how about making them on the PTR?" Great idea! Minimal is working on just a few more things before we can bring the PTR up for days at a time (instead of hours.) After it is up, we can start making some new classes for it. Have any ideas?We are thinking about Necromancer, Bard, Vampire Slayer and Druid. If you get involved by suggesting skills for these classes on the forums. Official stats include: STR, DEX, INT, WIS, END, LUK. Also, there are To Hit, Crit, Haste, Dodge, Parry, Block/Resist. Elemental damage, monster type, area type (normal or PvP), and equpped gear can be taken into account. Have fun!

*The cold-hearted Queen Aisha has taken over the Frozen Northlands and is threatening to freeze the inhabitants of Lore—starting with the Northland villagers! As if her cold-blooded demeanor (big word, yay!) wasn’t enough to freeze the world over, she has even sent an avalanche of chilly beasties to help ensure the new Ice Age Level (remember, you don’t “Age” in Lore… you “Level” up). Aisha’s ice army is jammed-packed with new members… and these monsters are nothing like you’ve seen before!

Since you’re going to be fighting in this war, you should be educated in what these chilly beasts are wielding and wearing. The more you know about the enemy—the more you know about how to defeat them. And what to loot from them.

Alpha Phase Opens Tomorrow (Thursday)
Tomorrow we are going to open up the apha of the Battle On Games! Master Account System. It will happen at night... possibly REALLY late*. You probably have a lot of questions**. But my best answer is as follows:

"The One Login to Rule Them All!"

Think hard about what login name you would like to use to access all of our future games. Then join us tomorrow night to choose your login name. By the way, for security reasons, no one except you and the player support team will ever actually see this login name. It will never be publically displayed. Pretty good security move, huh? This is why you should choose a login name that is completely different from the name you normally use. You can even use an email address. For example... and this may shock you. My login will NOT be Artix. I am going to choose something impossible for anyone to guess, and then I am never going to tell anyone else what it is. Since your login name and password will be how you access all of your games in the future, I highly suggest you do the same***.
This is the start of something huge. Tomorrow's Alpha release of this new system is available to all players. It is an Alpha... so there will be very limited functionality and anything can (and will) go wrong. Also.. as a special bonus... we have a secret announcement to reveal! (Oh boy, are you going to be surprised****)
* Really late like... Friday. Or perhaps even Monday.

PTR Opening VERY SOON

We are ready for another PTR test. The new PvP map puts you inside Bludrut where you must defeat enemy captains before being able to take down the enemy General. All players are getting a major health boost via a new item while in PvP maps. Be sure to read the rules of this new game before playing... winning may take a little strategy and cooperation!

The best part about Cole is that he is the 4th NON-MEMBER PET!

People always ask me why pets are always (mostly) member only. The answer is pretty simple: 1) Pets cause some amount of on-screen lag. If we limit it to just the members then it cuts down a LOT on the lag since most players are not members.

2) It's a nice little fun perk for members. Something cool to show off, collect and brag about.

So How Do I Get Cole?
The answer is pretty simple...again: If you use any of our AE Upgrade Cards to upgrade during Black Friday (that's THIS friday, the 27th!) Then he appears in your backpack! How easy is that? Don't answer. I can't hear you.

You can use your card on a Membership or Adventurecoins! As long as you use the card on Black Friday, Cole will be joining you for the holidays!

This particular arrangement of words has haunted me for as long as I can remember. Everyone seems to be frightened of this so-called “unlucky day”…but not me. When you have horrible luck like I do, every day is Friday the 13th!

So If A Black Cat Looks Into A Broken Mirror...?

The AQW family can vouch for me. Artix often suggests new ways of protecting me from my own inevitable doom. (Artix says, "Recently we shopped around for a human sized Hamster-bubble, and found that just buying 20 feet of bubble wrap was just as effective..") Cysero is in charge of the blueprints for said plans. Unfortunately… by the time the plan in nearly complete, I have had yet another unfortunate mishap involving ferrets, yogurt, staircases, bumblebees, and/or anything that is intended for ages 3 and up.

You see the connection, right? Cysero is currently forging me a full armor made entirely from bubble wrap. I hope he can finish it by tonight…

A Shattered Horseshoe? That Can't Be Good luck!

In order for you to survive Friday the 13th, I have constructed a list of common superstitions and omens so that you won’t have horrible luck like I do!

Surviving Friday the 13th 101

Breaking a mirror will cause 7 years of bad luck. If you happen to break a mirror, wait 7 hours before picking up the fragments and bury them outside. This will break the curse.
The number 13 is considered very unlucky. Avoid this particular digit at all costs.
Walking under a ladder can lead to a horrible mishap in the future. In order to break the curse, you must cross your fingers and spit 3 times through the ladder’s rungs.
If you step on a crack you’ll break your mother’s back! Keep on the lookout for any cracks on the sidewalk!
Whatever you do, don’t spill salt! If you happen to knock over a salt shaker, make sure to take a pinch of the salt and throw it over your left shoulder. This will ward off the bad luck curse!

Never fall asleep on a table. This will bring you bad luck. Beds were invented in order to prevent anyone from befalling this curse.
It is bad luck to open an umbrella inside a building. And even worse luck if you put it over your head!
Horseshoes are symbols of good luck. If one is upside down, or if it breaks, this means that the luck has run out.

The DragonKoi Tournament

The PTR (Public Test Realm)
To enable Stats and PvP, Minimal rewrote the entire game and battle system from the ground up! It is not really ready for testing yet.... but we are going to test it any way! Want to help? It will be a little bit like Alpha testing. The PTR server will be online for an hour or two at a time starting Friday. Please know that due to it only being one server, some tests will be member only. Watch for golden moderator announcements asking for help. Also, we do all of our testing right here, in your browser on AQ.com and Battleon.com. Only use your usename and password on our official sites.

Trick or treating at Artix's house
It was Saturday just before the big Halloween party. Artix was still at his house and running around his house jumping over furniture to test out his Ninja Costume. He was already running late... and there it was... DING DONG! The door bell. Panic set in. My stealthy Ninjaness must have failed. Probably when I turned on one of the lights to re-velcro my Ninja tabi boots. A trick or treater had come to my house! I expected to already be at the party so I did not buy any candy. In desperation I checked to see if there was any of last year's Reese's peanut butter cups left in the cupboard. Empty. Rolith ate them all the day before. So I did a ninja roll up to the door and opened it suddenly . The boy, holding his bag looked up at me and said, "Trick or Treat!!!" With my most serious face I raised an eyebrow and reached into my tunic... suddenly pulling out a shuriken! (you know... a Ninja throwing star) His eyes shot open in fear. I said, "Trick....." I dropped the rubber throwing star into his plastic pumpkin shaped candy bucket. With a surprised smile the size of the grand canyon he let out a, "WOOOOOAH-COOOOL!!!!" as he ran back to show his parents.

Side note: He had intended to order 2 rubber throwing stars... and by accidentally ordered two whole boxes of them! I hope you had a fun time on Saturday. If you have a great story please share on the forums!

Just when they couldn't release any more...They do!

This week's release features 3 quests, 2 new armors, 2 new helms, 1 new pet and 6 new weapons... ALL SEASONAL RARES. You only have one more week before Mystcroft vanishes until next year, so get these and all the other Mogloween armors, pets and items while they last!

You must perservere! Now, the strores all want you to believe you need a fancy plastic pumpkin shaped bucket -- but you need something BIGGER. When I was in middle school we had the ultimate run where we filled two pillow cases EACH! The secret is double tapping***. That is you need to get 2x the candy from each house. A lot of amateurs try switching costumes... but that uses up too much of your precious candy collecting time. You only have a few hours of prime caaandy-eering! So use your imagination to come up with a clever reason as to why you should get a second handful of candy. (I should not be telling this story... but I was really young, lol) We declared that we worked for a group that was investigating alien candy tampering activity and needed an extra "sample" to take back to our scientists to examine. Saying this with a straight face was harder than it sounds! They often laughed and said "that was a good one" while dishing out another handfull of candy. (Mmmmm.... I love Reeses. +25pts) When the night ended we all went my friend's house and spilled our candy filled bags on the floor to begin.... candy trading! (Best part of the night) We wanted to recreate this experience in game which is why Mogloween features Trick or Treating or candy filled craziness in our games. Next year I would like to have real trick or treating in our AQW houses. For all of you going trick or treating in real life this weekend... be safe, and have fun! ...and if you see a younger "newbie" trick or treater who is having trouble filling his plastic pumpkin bucket. Be sure to share some of your candy from your OVERFLOWING PILLOW CASE OF CANDY FILLED JUSTICE :-) Battle on!

In addition to unlimited bank spaced for AC items, Zhoom agreed to increase the number of bank spaces you can aquire by 20. There are some technical issues that need to be overcome for this... but Zhoom says we can have a early mid-week release for these bank slots. No more lag!

The lag was insane. Minimal and Zhoom spent over 24 hours recoding the server. When plans A, B, C, & D failed... they never gave up. (We never do -- Thank you for believing in us.) Plan E struck true and at 10:30pm, 3000 players joined us on the Minimal server to help test. We ALL battled the Sweetish fish in an all out assault which has been called "extreme payback for the lag" Poor fishy! During the test I was getting a lot of PMs so we made a video.... enjoy! We JUST rolled the new game version live! Be sure to refresh, or go to the homepage and use the play button to get the anti-lag version!

Gravelyn have a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that the kidnapped Heroes are in more trouble than we first thought. And my gut has never steered me wrong before…

You have been at war with the Golden Onslaught for almost a week now. As part of my Undead Army, you may not fear death since, after all, you are already a skeleton. Your Heroes, on the other hand, are still alive… for now. But Lionfang has gotten restless… *gulp*

It is up to you to save them! If you cannot save Artix, Cysero, King Alteon and the rest of the Team… then what will happen to the rest of Lore? And, more importantly, who will make AQW’s weekly releases?

Mogloween would be complete without the things that go bump in the night. Have your revenge against Ghostly Sheets, Jack-O-Dooms, and even the Great Pumpkin King! Brand new baddies will make an appearance as well—after all, Gravelyn had to send her bootleg undead somewhere…
What is Mogloween?
Mogloween is a costume-themed pumpkin-inspired spooky holiday celebrated in October. Candy, ghosts, candy, candy, jack-o-lanterns, costumes, and more candy are just a few of the things that make Mogloween one of the most fun holidays in Lore.

When is Mogloween?
This year, Mogloween starts Friday, October 17th, and lasts the entire month of October and into the first part of November! WOOHOO

Where is Mogloween?
Mogloween is held annually in a time-and-space altering land known as Mystcroft. You can journey to this mysterious place via the giant unmistakable Mogloween button in Battleon.

What can you do during Mogloween?
An easier question would be: what can’t you do during Mogloween! Multiple quests will be provided by the Cauldron Sisters and the Vampire Queen, Safiria. Collect candy, slash through ghosts, pulverize mutated pumpkins, and collect spooky items! Seasonal Rare shops will open, allowing you to dress up in awesome costumes, available ONLY during Mogloween!

Oh no, I missed last year’s Mogloween! (Well I didn't)
No problem. For the first week, we are re-releasing Mogloween just as it was last year! This will give everyone a chance to play through AQW’s 1st Mogloween ever (feel free to laugh at our typos) that will prepare you all for this year’s brand-new festivities (coming next week)!

Are the Mogloween 2008 items going to be re-released?
Not exactly. We will be releasing 2009 versions of last year’s items; this means you can still get all the Mogloween costumes, helms, and weapons that were released last year! The only thing different will be a “2009” tag added to the name. This way, those of you who participated in 2008 will have the 1st Edition of said items, while everyone else can get their hands on the 2009 2nd Edition items!

What Mogloween 2009 items will be released?
All of the items released last year will make a grand reappearance! Such items include the 2009 versions of:

Banana Suit
Red Moglin Head
Paper Bag helm
Vampire Armor (Vampire Class has gone Rare!)
Jack-O-Doom Helm
Pumpkin Lord Class (Does this mean there will be another pumpkin lord?)

Along with these 2008 items, brand-new Mogloween 2009 items will be available! What will they be? Hmmm… you’ll just have to wait to find out. We don’t want to ruin any surprises!

Stay calm. It’s time to have some fun being a ghost—scare your friends or haunt your enemies! Don’t forget to brush up on your Ghost lingo: “BOO!”

So, tomorrow is 10/10/09 and I can't believe that AQW has been live and online for a year!

You've already faced 2 of Drakath's Chaos Lords (and met the Twins), survived dragons, black knights, and even a giant fish monster with ice cream on its head... but you've never HAD the chance to actually BE the undead army assaulting the tower!

Let's go over what acme out today:

A brand new Birthday Event war starts today, with new enemies and new rewaeds unlocking at 50% and 100%!

MEMBER: 6 new items including the DoomKnight CLASS (with levelable skills) , the DoomKnight Hood and the DoomKnight Cloak.

NON-MEMBER: 7 new Items including the Golden Phoenix Helm, White Fur Cloak, Red Double Axe Blade, Horns of the Undead Staff, and Lionfang's Whip!

All of these items drop from the war enemies and will probaby become war rares after the event, but some of the items will not drop until you reach 50% or 100%.

ADVENTURE COIN ITEMS: In the war, Gravelyn sells 6 new AC items: The Gold, Onyx and Ornate DoomKnight armors, as well as the Gold, Onyx and Ornate DoomKnight hoods!

This weekend we are also celebrating 2 MORE birthdays in the Secret Underground Lab in addition to AQW's: Rolith's and mine.

Archlord Maximilian Lionfang of the Golden Onslaught stands in his tower which belonged to an Evil necromaner. Lionfang converted it to Onslaught Tower once he had "cleansed" the necromancer from the world. It was his first act of treason against King Alteon and the Great Truce between Good and Evil.

He is surrounded by an army of golden clad knights and a fog that kills any living thing that it touches... and tomorrow we're going to attack them with the courage of those who have ALREADY given their lives to save their friends!

People have been writing in and asking questions about the prison in which that Lionface has us locked-up. As you can clearly see Artix and our friends are imprisoned behind strong iron bars, the mighty Warlic has had his hands magically bound to the wall making spell casting nearly impossible, the brave little moglin Twilly has even been given a prison to himself... a cat carrier, and I...

...I'm standin' inside a chalk circle which is labled "Do Not Cross."

One player wrote in asking: "If it's just a chalk line, Why not just walk across it?"

Here is why: Lionfang gave each of our prisons a lot of thought. We are each held captive in the way that suits us best... a way which we are INCAPABLE of escaping.

I can't just walk across the line... because that isn't funny.

I'm literally imprisoned by my own sense of comedy.

Lionfang is a tactical genius, be careful when you face him!

Everyone knows that members are getting the Doom Knight class this weekend, complete with never-before seen skills...

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! (FINALLY)

...but a lot of the non-member players have been saying that they are feeling a little left out of the war against the Golden Onslaught.

I've decided to let you know, in advance, all of the items that Free Players can get this weekend!

Brand New Non-Member Weapons and items!

1) The Golden Onlsaught enemies will drop SIX brand new items for non-members: Golden Phoenix Helm, White Fur Cloak, Red Double Axe Blade, Horns of the Undead Staff, RazorBack Skull Blade, and the Undead Skull Polearm.

2) For people with REALLY short memories, we released a LOT of non-member stuff last week too! The Sweetish Fish monster in Twig's Birthday map will continue to drop FOUR non-member gift boxes that will open with goodies inside of them on November 1st.

3) The Sweetish Fish will also to continue to drop the THREEnon-member items: Cherry Bomb dagger, Sweetish Fish Tail back item and the Ice Cream Helm.

4) Last week we also updated the Yokai Tournament Rep Shop with some new non-member items: ONE new weapon, Sporkion's Spork, ONE new armor, Absolute Zero's armor andTWO new helms, Absolute Zero's Zero Mask and Sporkion's Hood.

5) For those non-members with some ACs to spend, on Friday, Gravelyn will also be selling THREE new non-member armors and THREE new non-member helms: the Gilt Doom Knight Armor, Gilt Doom Knight Hood, Gold Doom Knight Armor, Gold Doom Knight Hood, Onyx Doom Knight Armor, and the Onyx Doom Knight Hood.

Where, oh where have our good people gone?

I would like to thank you for coming to Yokai Isle and participating in the DragonKoi tournament. Best of luck and please continue to do well. I must remind you how important it is that you are victorious. But another issue has come to my attention and I am a bit worried.

Beleen has been keeping me up-to-date about the strange things that have been happening around here. I heard of Artix's disappearance and Cysero's as well. She had also mentioned that she couldn't find Warlic, Zhoom or J6 a few hours later. Poor things, I do hope they are alright. She sounded pretty frantic yesterday and I was trying to keep her calm but she was running around like a chicken with their head cut off! However, since then I have not heard back from her.

We should organize some sort of safety precaution for everyone who's left. Anyone know where she ran off too?

.... You don't suppose she's been kidnapped too do you?

Ai No Miko should better go look for Robina, Galanoth and Llussion. It isn't safe anywhere anymore.

First Artix… and now Cysero!?
The two have gone missing!

This isn’t like them. Don’t get me wrong—Artix and Cysero are prone to disappearing. But in the end, you can usually find them battling the Undead, hovering around the coffee maker, or jamming out with Warlic and Zhoom.

But this time is different. J6, Galanoth, and I have been searching Battleon high and low, trying to find clues to the duo’s disappearance. No footprints. No Daimyo. No stinky left socks. No luck so far.

Where could they be? I can’t even reach them on their eyePhones (Lore’s most trusted super-cellular micro-computer talking apparatus)!

Someone—or something—paladinapped Artix! And that same person most likely snatched Cysero up today (they probably lured him with something shiny like gold, tin foil, or ice cream)! But who would do such a thing?!

Maybe they have posted something on their Twitters and/or Facebooks..?

Has Anyone Seen Artix?
Hi guys!

Just a couple of quick notes...

The Rep has been removed from the Ryoku 1 on 1 fight. Some hackers were using it asn an exploit for easy reputation gain so, as of now, the only way to get Yokai rep is thrugh the 3v3 fights.

A lot of you have been writing to us and telling us how concerned you are about hackers, cheaters and scammers. I just wanted to let you know that recently we have made a few huge stides in protecting AQW, and you from these people.

Fighting hackers, scammers and people who would try and take advantage of AE's generally good natured attitude toward the world does take a lot of our time. They really ruin the fun for everyone and their actions can actually hurt the game. and We really care about our games and the people who decide to play them, so we will never quit fighting the never-ending battle.

Birthday Stuff!
We're REALLY busy preparing battleOn for AQW's 1 YEAR BIRTHDAY! That means that all of you founders who bought your 1 year membership on October 10th of last year are about to have your memberships expire. It's been a great year, and it started with you guys. Thanks for your faith in us (it takes a lot to buy an untested game.. especially from us) and thanks for growing with us. I really hope you have enjoyed the last year as much as we have and we hope that you decide to come back for another year.

Speaking of the birthday, we've got a little party planned and if you missed out on being a AQW FOUNDER, you don't want to miss out on being a 1ST UPHOLDER!

I'm sure he's fine. He'll probably show up tonight with a great story about killing dead things. Come to think of it... that's how most of his stories start. And end.

The DragonKoi Tournament Begins!
It is no secret that we are huge fans of Anime and Manga. In the first part of Yokai Isle we are entering into the DragonKoi Tourament. If you are also a fan of anime and manga.... um... brace yourself! There will be selection of new armors and items to get you in the spirit. There is also a new Japanese themed house model for Members. The main town on Yokai is called "Akiba". Named after the most amazing town in Japen (Filled to the brim with anime, manga, games, and computers) Half of our new town has been released along with the arena this week. We really hope you enjoy this special release!

For centuries, the town of Akiba has been a thriving city known for crafting some of the most amazing items. Two brand-new shops are finally open to everyone in Akiba! Yokai Isle
There is an Island in the sea to the east of Swordhaven. For as long as I can remember it was forbidden to travel there. A land with legends, customs and monsters I have never heard of before. All of that is about to change.... starting Friday.

Behind the scenes: This is will be the beginning to a beautiful new storyline based on my recent real life adventure to Japan. Apologies in advance for all of the anime/manga spoofs in part 1. It will be a nice transition from the famliar to the unknown!

This week in AdventureQuest Worlds... It was not long ago two meteors were on a collision course with our town of Battleon. In a historic event, the combined magic of every mage in our world teleported the entire town to the safety of GreenGuard forest! But... did anyone look UNDER our landing spot? What dangers, dungeons and creatures did we land our town on top of!? Find out this Friday.... secret passages will be opening around town! (Rumor has it there is a secret underground lab somewhere down there too.)

Meanwhile, as we approach the 1st Birthday of AdventureQuest Worlds (MOGLOWEEN!!!), we are working rapidly on Stats and PvP that will take us version 1.0! We will need your help testing on the soon to open "Public Test Server". Shhhh *whispers* and an inside secret just between us... The next brand new area is in the far, far, far east. Inspired by my recent real-life adventure, it will be a Japanese themed zone. Overflowing with Yokai, Ninja, Samurai, super cute NPCs, a beautiful story based on real legends, and tons of references to your favorite anime and manga series (Maybe even a few you have not heard of yet) it will be the craziest zone we have ever made. Oh, if the rumors of the next Chaos Lord are true, *gulps*, then we are all going to need to get a lot stronger just to face his minions.

WOW! We just got back from the very inspiring DragonCon 2009 convention. We ran an official AQWorlds panel which was awesome! We were very honored that the room was packed with incredible players. A few of them traveled unbelievable distances to come be with us. Thank you! Some amazing players even came dressed as their favorite AE characters!

Words cannot describe how the team felt we when saw this...

If you could not be there do not worry! We showed ALL of the screenies submission in a slideshow during our panel (you got some laughs and cheers!) ALSO........ oh yes, Zorbak ran around and got his picture taken with people in costume at the 45,000 person convention. New theme this year... it will be called "Zorbak ~~goes to~~ dies at Con" -- because everyone was trying to eat him, disintigrate him, blow him up, or decapitate him with lightsabers! We have.. oh.. just... um.. a few thousand photos to sort through and we will post the best for you ASAP!

You may only submit ONE (1) screenshot, so make sure it’s awesome.
Your screenshot MUST be cropped to just the game screen. In other words, do not submit a screenie of your entire desktop.
Screenshots MUST be saved as a JPEG. Any other formats (such as .png) will be disregarded.
Your screenie must abide by all AQW Terms and Conditions—so no foul language, inappropriate content, etc.

This boss fight requires 4-5 players. First, all attack stalagbite, when he's dead, attack Vath. Vath reduces your weapon damage alot (my weapon only does around 10-15 damage each time!) So be warned. There is a high chance that you'll get a drop as Vath drops 9 items:

This is the way we squash the bugs...
Good news everyone! The bug with the minigame (free players not being able to advance after the minigame) has been fixed. You should be able to finish it up properly now.
Bank and Inventory Issues: 1. Some people have been posting about losing bag slots. What is happening is this - empty bag slots are no longer visible. Say you have 40 slots purchased, but items in 35 of them. You'll only see those 35. You haven't lost the other 5 - you can add items to them as necessary.
2. People are putting in AC items and are unable to find them in the bank. As you can see below, the bank now has 2 tabs. Click on the AC symbol to see your AC items.

Fight With Your Head First. No. Don't Headbutt Him... Nevermind.
Vath is ready for you... or so he thinks.
Or maybe he's right.
This boss fight is unlike anything you've seen in AQ Worlds before. it requires a STRATEGY... I don't want to give away too much, but I will tell you this: If you find yourself getting stomped to death by Stalagbite for 3600 damage, UR DOIN IT WRONG!
With quick wits, good old-fashioned trial and error and a pinch of luck... you'll be able to figure it out. Don't give up! The dwarves are counting on you.
If you defeat Vath the dwarves will be waiting for you in Tavern. Speak to Snowbeard and you will be able to replay every single amazing cutscene from the entire Dwarfhold Quest Chain!
Vath is a Pinata. Hit him enough and candy will fall out. He will drop:

Piles.
It Seems To Be A Law Of Nature.
Things always seem to happen in piles. Sometimes it's bad things (You dog runs off with your homework, your cell phone company charges you for talking 2,761,131.3 minutes more than you actually talked, you step in a puddle, you accidentally shave off an eyebrow, the puddle comes back for revenge, your computer runs off with your dog and your dinner tries to eat you), and sometimes it's AWESOME things...

This seems to be one of those times for us. The good kind.

This weekend the non-members get to fight the Rock Roc, while the members face down Chaos Dragonlord Vath with his extremely large number of item drops (His armor, 2 versiosn of his sword, Chaos drow cloak, Chaos Dragonlord helm, Chaos Dragonlord mace Chaos Dragonlance, Stalagbite pet.... pretty sure he's even dropping his hairstyle).

We are also adding 5 or 6 new items to the Player Suggestion shop in Yulgar's Inn.

That Armored Hashasin Armor makes me look like a rhinestone Elvis... but how is that a bad thing?! There will be 4 new armors, 1 new sword and possibly a new helm. These new items were thought up and suggested by players just like you on our suggestion forums, and brought into AdventureQuest Worlds!

On top of all that, this week Mechquest is releasing its Dragonguard Bonus Packages for Veteran Star Captains!

Then next week, we've got Dragoncon in Atlanta, GA where we will be hosting a live panel on AQW and the other AE games, meeting some old friends (Stratos, Shawn and Violet), meeting new players, giving out prizes like the Sock Dragon pet and releasing the AQW Good and Evil rep shops, opening the Vath fight for ALL AQW players and the making the DragonFable Doom Knight Bonus Offer live for veteran Dragonlords in DragonFable!

HAHAHAHA! I have direct access to the AQW design notes now! No more handing over a well written DNs post to Ai No Miko to post for me!

Let's talk. It's been a while. How have you been?

Oh, I guess you can't answer. Ok, let's talk about something else.

How about AC items. You guys know that Adventure Coins are real money. You can earn and spend as much gold as you like and it has no real effect on AQW but every AC that you spend goes to supporting the game, paying for the servers, paying for the bandwidth and supporting the staff who makes the games so we can dedicate all of our professional time to making you more releases and instead of all of us getting second (or in some cases third) jobs at Fatburger. I mean, I think it would be awesome if AE ran it's own Fatburger and we all worked there, but the less I have to make fast food the happier I am.

Sorry, back to Adventure Coins.

As I was saying, you spend REAL money on ACs and that money all goes to supporting the game, and inventory space is limited for cost reasons BUT AC INVENTORY doesn't have to be. You already spent the money to support the game. We don't want you to have to pick and choose which AC items to save or delete... we don't want you to delete ANY of them... they cost you real cash! SO... here's what we're going to do.

Very soon, the bank will be able to hold an UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF AC ITEMS! This upgrade to your bank will cost you no additional ACs. It comes with the Bank. This upgrade to your bank is for everyone, member and non-member alike.

If you haven't opened your bank yet talk to Valencia in Battleon.

As soon as this update happens (maybe this Friday, maybe not... but soon) ...if you decide to buy every single AC item in the entire game then you will be able to fit ALL of them in your bank. AC weapons, AC Armors, AC helms, AC Cloaks, AC Pets... AC ANYTHING.

This was only fair to you guys. We really appreciate all of your support, without member support AND AC support, AQW would never make it. We love this game, and we love you being able to play it... thanks for keeping it alive and going strong!

On to Cupcakes. One of my very best friends, who has been since my first month of college (she broke my watch) and she and her entire family play AQW. I hang out with them in game when I can because they live 4 hours away and I don't get to see them much in real life but LAST WEEKEND they all came to visit. She is good at a lot of things but she cooks like nobody's business (Actually she cooks like it's HER business. Because it IS her business. She runs a catering business) and she made me cupcakes.

Oooooh cupcakes.

Now, MOST cupcakes are pretty good. It's hard to mess up cupcakes, but THESE were SERIOUS cupcakes. The cakes themselves had berries, and they were moist and perfect but the frosting... it was some sort of magical mixture made of confectioner's sugar, cream cheese, raspberry jam and love. I've never tasted anything like it.

Normally my fiancee and I share everything. When we share something I always save the last bite of it for her. She does the same for me. We obviously encounter some problems in that respect. We end up with a lot of "last bites" sitting around. But these magical cupcakes had a different effect on us. We fought over the last one.

I mean fought.

She hit me with a chair. I was forced to turn a fire hose on her. She drove her car through a wall to cut me off on my way to the kitchen. I threw a shark at her. She blew up the sun. It was a MESS.

Man those were some good cupcakes.

Dwarves vs. Drow: the War begins!

As if taking down a massively foul Fowl isn’t dangerous enough, Dwarves have declared War against the Drow! Dwarfhold Mountains belong to the Dwarves and you and your friends must do everything in your power to see that their home is returned! But Wars are no picnics (if they were, everyone would be a lot happier!); the Drow have called their comrades to battle as well! Taking down Chaos Draconians amongst the Drow is not going to be an easy task… especially since Vath's most trusted general, D'wain Jonsen the King Scorpion Lord, is leading the crusade! YIPES!

The war features a new shop (id 84) which will probally never be available again unless you enter this in an aqw trainer:%xt%zm%loadShop%4%84% .Anyway here are the new items:

Stats, PvP, New Classes and Level Cap Raises...
So What's The Hold Up?
Hi Guys,
I just wanted to let you know what is going on and why we haven't told you about all the progress that we've been making toward our goals.

It's because there hasn't been any.

That's not actually true but the truth is less fun to say.

It all comes down to Stats. Needless to say giving your character stat points that effect your HP, Mana, Damage, Crit, Hit, Miss and other attributes will change the game in very dramatic way. Your build will become a very large part of who you are and how you play your classes.

It will also create a lot of problems. How do we gap the level differences when your friend makes a new character and wants to play with your uber, maxed-out, top-shelf, godlike character? How can you stick with one build when you can change classes at the drop of a hat? Do we let you rebuild your character every time you change clothes? These are only a few of the several very large roadblocks that have stopped up from beginning member-only testing of Stats.

Which stops us from doing everything else.

Stats will have a HUGE effect on Player Versus Player (PvP) combat... how long you survive in a fight with another player, how much you can heal yourself, maybe your attack speed, maybe how often you crit on another player, maybe how often you resist crits. Until stats are finished and released we can't move forward on PvP.

How about some new classes, then? *sigh* Those depends on stats too. Every new skill has to be balanced so that no new class is redonkulously overpowered compared to the others. Creating a new class takes some serious effort and thought as well as testing and If we made a new one now, we'd spend a week or more balancing it out only to have to REbalance it when stats are released, along with all the existing classes, which would mean it would take longer to get to YOU. Until stats are released we're stuck there too.

Ok then, Can you just raise the level cap by 10 or even 5? *cries* We can't. Aside from keeping the power levels reasonable so that any player can play new content without finding it too terribly easy or impossible, we still have the New Player Teams With Maxed Player thing to deal with. When we add stats that will make that gap even wider, and break everything. Until we know how stats are going to effect leveling up, then we can't raise the cap.

So we're kinda stuck. No luck. Sitting ducks. Which... stinks.

That's not to say that we haven't made HUGE strides in base functionality. I mean, PvP works... and it's AWESOME. Beleen, Ai No Miko, Llussion and I spent a good hour or two on the mod server whacking each other and knocking each other out. It was Girls versus Boys. We won. But don't tell them that. It was a LOT of fun but also VERY broken.

You guys will get to see, when we get the member only testing servers up and you faithful AQW members can help us iron out some of the bugs, but we MUST get stats out before that can happen.

Believe me, we are racking our brains trying to solve all the game breaking issues having to do with stats... sometimes we are even racking each others brains, whatever that means. We are getting closer and closer to a working solution every day and soon.... very soon, we'll have one.

After that, you'd better be ready for the awesome-sauce that follows... or else you'll drown in that sauce. Not a pretty picture.

Back to work... This week Vath tries to awaken the next Chaos Beast. If you're going to stop him you're going to need a little more firepower than what the dwarves can offer. If only you could gets your hands on a big, purple dragon somehow....

Do you have what it takes to enter Lord Vath’s chamber? Are you prepared to face what is inside? You do realize what will happen if you get caught, right? Are you sure you wanna go in there? …Alright. Just keep in mind that Vath is a Lord of Chaos after all, and he is bound to have a few tricks up his DragonLord armored sleeve! Let’s just hope that everyone you met along the way isn’t a traitor… *shudder* oh, I have a bad feeling about this… Let’s say hypothetically that you do get caught by Lord Vath. The outcome will not be pretty. You’ll probably get thrown into Prison… but hey, spending quality time behind bars has its perks. You can always meet the inmates and help devise an escape plan! But where there is a Prison, there is always a Prison Warden… and Prison Wardens are the boss (hypothetically, of course)!

Mick Guyver, the Dwarven Engineer
Best known for creating amazing concoctions out of odd-ball things, Mick Guyver is one dwarf to have on your side. His whereabouts are currently unknown*, but if you do find him, take the time to say hello; you never know what crazy inventions he might need your help with! He also has a secret shop that sells 14 brand-new Dwarfhold-themed house items, including:

A new Cave House has been added to Penny’s Real Estate Shop, too! This two-room home is built into the side of a mountain and features a scenic view!

New Items!
How monsters get a hold of Gold and Weapons? Beats me. Regardless, the monsters of Dwarfhold have somehow acquired a new shipment of weapons! We did, however, find a wrinkled-balled-up-slightly-torn Shipping Invoice in Vath’s trashcan that listed the monsters’ orders! Convenient, right?

Amadeus ordered a new dagger: Claw of the Shrew
Albino Bats received 2 new types of Cricket Bats
Glow Worms now have 5 multiple-colored GlowSticks
Balboas received 2 new Rocky Clubs
Axe of the Prospector was also ordered for Balboas

Snowbeard also got a new shipment in (Fed-Axe must be working double time)! A new Dwarven Engineering Armor is available for purchase, but you will have to be pretty reputable with Dwarfhold to wear this gear!

Drow Heads?
Well… not quite. Well… kinda. The Drow in Dwarfhold are dropping what we like to call “head morphs.” When placed upon your head, these magical helms transform your face, eyes, ears, and hair into that of a Drow! There are 5 new Drow Head Morphs to collect; some would say that this is one way to get a head in life!
